This class will continue to build upon the previous experience in movement exploration and development of fundamental skills needed to progress successfully in physical activity settings. The focus is to develop healthy lifestyles, motor skills and movement knowledge. Social and personal skills will also be developed.
Units of Study
- Locomotor Skills--walk, jog, run, gallop, skip, jump, hop, slide and leap.
- Manipulative skills--throw, catch, strike, dribble, kick and roll.
- Fitness--Introduce the components of aerobic conditioning, muscular endurance and strength and flexibility. Practice the Fitnessgram Assessment.
- Movement and Spatial Awareness--movement and spatial awareness and positional vocabulary.
- Playground games--kickball and 4-square
- Jump rope--long and short jump ropes
- Lead-up games--basketball and soccer.
- Team Building--challenges and relay races.
- Sportsmanship--personal responsibility, teamwork, effort and positive/appropriate interaction with others.
Locomotor Skills
- Students will be able to walk, run, jog, hop, jump, leap, skip, gallop and slide with proper form.
- Students will understand the vocabulary and be able to perform the movement.
Manipulative Skills
- Students will be able to throw, catch, strike, dribble, kick and/or roll a variety of equipment during various physical activities.
Fitness
- Students will identify what part of the body affects cardiovascular endurance.
- Students will identify three major muscle groups in the body.
- Students will describe the importance of flexibility.
- Students will complete the Fitnessgram Assessment to the best of my ability.

Playground Games
- Students will apply kicking, running, throwing and catching skills into the game of kickball.
- Students will apply throwing and catching skills into the game of four square.
- Students will improve their jump rope skills (short ropes, long ropes, forward, backward, one foot, two feet, criss-cross, straddle jump, double unders, cross country).
- Students will be able to dribble, pass and shoot a basketball while participating in a variety of basketball activities. Focus of games will be skill development, not an official competitive game.
- Students will be able to dribble, pass and shoot a soccer ball while participating in a variety of soccer activities. Focus of the games will be skill development, not an official competitive game.
- Students will participate n team building challenges and games by trying their best, encouraging others, working together and having a positive attitude.
