We are starting the Fitnessgram Assessment at Longfellow and Mitchell.  It is a web-based fitness program that the district obtained last year.  The Fitnessgram Assessment is a tool we can use to track the fitness levels of all of our students from elementary school through high school.  Along with putting the scores on the computer, the students will use the results of their first assessment to set goals to try and reach as the year continues.  The six assessments are:  pacer test, curl-ups, push-ups, trunk life, back saver sit and reach and body composition.  Check back to see pictures of the students performing these assessments.

Jordan and Bill, our two Longfellow runners, at the finish line of the Cross Country Run.  I'm very proud of both runners for competing in the event!
On Tuesday October 16th, the students from the 11 elementary schools in the district competed in the Cross Country Run at McCarty Park. The 4th and 5th grade students from Longfellow and Mitchell competed against students from the other elementary schools in the district. After the 4th and 5th grade competition, all students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade had the opportunity to run the course for fun. Both the competitive and recreational run encourage kids to be active and healthy outside of school. I am very proud of all the participants, they did FANTASTIC!!!
My name is Allison Cardwell. I have been a Physical Education Teacher in the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District for 15 years. I spent my first 12 years at Nathan Hale High School, and the last 3 years at the elementary level. Physical Education is a vital part of any school curriculum. Not only can P-E encourage a healthy lifestyle but it is also linked to academic success.  I look forward to a great year at Longfellow and Mitchell!
